Questions
Take a few minutes to review the questions and common NC-TOPPS scenarios before you complete the test.
1-How should NC-TOPPS interviews be conducted?-
It is the expectation that all NC-TOPPS interviews be conducted face-to-face. If the person is not available, then the next best option is via telephone. Although there is an option to complete NC-TOPPS without the person’s input, this choice does not allow specific questions to be asked and should only be used if the person fails to cooperate with the interview.
2-If a member is switching QPs or services, but is staying with your agency, who would you contact to switch the NC-TOPPS?
The first choice for switching NC-TOPPS when the member is staying at the same agency is to have the agency superuser to complete the task. The MCO superusers are also available to make this switch.
3-Are all agencies required to have a superuser?
The answer is yes. All agencies are required to have a superuser if the agency provides services that require an NCTOPPS. This includes each agency site listed in NC-TOPPS.
4-Do you know the time frames for submitting each NC-TOPPS interview?
The initial interview should be submitted by the second treatment visit, the 3 month is due 90 days later and the 6 month is due 180 days after the initial was submitted. Each subsequent interview is to be submitted every six months.
5-When are persons under the supervision of the juvenile justice system required to have an NCTOPPS?
When they are receiving any mental health or substance use disorder treatment service if an LME/MCO enrolls them into Consumer Data Warehouse. If you do not know if a person is enrolled in CDW, then email us a nctopps@vayahealth.com and we can assist you with that information.
6-When a member is receiving multiple services that require an NC-TOPPS to be submitted, do you know who is responsible for submitting the NC-TOPPS?
The responsible service is the one that is the highest on the hierarchy list. There should only be one NC-TOPPS for a person.
